Know Your Subject

Or "What is the Point?".

This past weekend we were down at the coast, My daughter and I did the typical tourist thing while my wife did her conference. This trip, as usual, included taking photographs that were pretty typical.

What did we learn? Shoot tight, more often! The tendency was to take in the scenery showing my daughter at play at the shore. This was nice but when I came back I found myself cropping in much tighter. We had our scenery shots which were great too but the up close personal shots needed to not include the scenery. I suppose the title of this blog entry should have been “Understand what you trying to do with each shot”.

The cropping helped but think about how much better these face shots would have been if they were shot up close and tight in the camera.

Both photographs in this entry are the same.  Why all the rocks in the background?  Were they really the subject of the photograph?

Next time!  Practice, practice, practice!

Oh, by the way.... We stopped by Mike C.'s place "Rock Coast Sports" and had a great visit.  I'd suggest that anyone in the area stop by and say hi to Mike and his wife.  He has quite the operation going there!
