The End of Mac's Innocents

Tom S. With the recent report of over 600,000 Macs suspected of being infected with the "FlashBack" trojan, the end of Apple's innocents is here. It was only a matter of time before this occrured and those of you that use a Mac should start doing what Windows users have had to do for years.... learn how to protect yourself.
Three things are bringing this about.
First off Microsoft has been working very hard and with a lot of success in hardening Windows. It has become increasing hard to infect a Windows OS, especially a newer version and particuarly one that is kept up to date. Plus Microsoft has supplied Windows users with a good, free anti-virus, anti-spyware piece of software called "Security Essentials". There have always been third party products that have worked as good or better.
Secondly Windows users have had to go through a long and often hard educational process on how to protect themselves and finally....
All Apple products have become more mainstream and with the increased numbers they've become much more lucrative for the "bad guys". All of the Apple OSs are rich resources that have been ignored for to long.
